You made me cry Yassooa. I read it ten times :)

Awesome captured moments of your childhood. Thank you!

It was so hard having to leave our family behind in Iraq while anticipating an attack on them by the US, which came less than three weeks after we left. I was crying all the way back to NH.

These were difficult days...Years.

And now, once again, the crimes against Palestine are much worse, if this is even possible!

We'll be here standing for you Palestine, until you are free.

I love you Ummi. You are my number one audience always, and the bright warmth through the hard days. I always thought those were the darkest of times, until we encountered this genocide. Freedom is around the corner insha'Allah, for everyone. The colonizers destroyed everything for the sake of Israel, but now they are crumbling and the people of the world have mobilized for the sake of Palestine. Palestine forever!

A poignant reflection that seems fitting for any diaspora whose members fled from any number of U.S. imperial wars. You were a cute kid, Yussra! Now grown into a wise young woman who shares her thoughts and feelings with us.

Thank you so much Lisa! Little did I realize at the time how many different peoples could relate to this exact experience.

I had written something else for Palestine, but I scrapped it and wrote this poem instead, sensing it could go further in conveying the emotional reality of imperialism to expose the colonizer. Thank you for fighting and inspiring so many others to do the same!
